Restructure Of Fare Set After Proposal For Kolkata Metro Rail

KOLKATA: Reeling under serious assets emergency, Metro Railway has sent a proposition for a toll amendment to the Railway Board. We don't know whether the Railway Board will support this or when it will become effective," Metro representative Indrani Banerjee said.

"In 2010-11, the cost caused in running a train was Rs 33,498. In 2014-15, it has gone up to Rs 57,968. By 2015-16, it will go up to Rs 62,090. The procuring per train in 2014-15 was Rs 20,103. Toward the end of 2015-16, this will be Rs 20,786. At present, the working proportion is almost 298. As the Metro doesn't have any cargo profit and there isn't adequate space at stations (not at all like at Delhi and somewhere else) for business usage, we need to fall back on charges for income," an authority said.
